isfeminismdead.jpg
Is Feminism Dead? (29 mins.)
Years after the women’s movement burst open doors of opportunity that had long been barred, a new generation of women seems to be questioning the meaning and the value of the battles fought by their mothers and grandmothers. Has feminism somehow gone out of style? In this program, Patricia Ireland, of NOW; Phyllis Schlafly, of the Eagle Forum; Ellen Goodman, of The Boston Globe; Dr. bell hooks, of CUNY’s English department; Dr. Tessie Liu, of Northwestern University’s history and gender identity departments; and Dr. Martha Wharton, of The Ohio State University’s departments of African-American studies and women’s studies, appraise the women’s movement as it currently exists and discuss its relevance in today’s cultural climate.

feministliterary
Feminist Literary Voices (28 mins.)
Has feminist literature gone mainstream? And what place do women’s presses have in society as it is today? This program offers valuable insights but no consensus as Gloria Steinem; Germaine Greer; Naomi Wolf; Lynn Crosbie, editor of Click: Becoming Feminists; Virago Press’ Lennie Goodings; and Althea Prince, of Women’s Press, Canada’s oldest feminist publishing house, address these and other issues. Additional topics include personal “click” moments, idealized versus real-world motherhood, equality—and loss of equality—in relationships, and the liberating feeling of menopause. A reading by poet Dionne Brand completes the program.

notabedroom
Not a Bedroom War: New Visions of Leadership for Women (52 mins.)
The title of this unique documentary is drawn from Betty Friedan’s challenge of the 1970s that feminism is not about men and women but about changing the world. The program was filmed at the meeting of women leaders from around the world who gathered in Dublin in 1992 to discuss new visions of leadership. Ireland’s President Mary Robinson, Friedan, and Utte Ranke-Heinemann are among the many charismatic speakers who debate the nature of power and empowerment—of religion, marriage, dreams, and achievements.

insupport
In Support of Women's Rights: Margaret Fuller(3:51 mins.)
Clip from: The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony: Revolution. In the 1840s, Margaret Fuller implores women to take time out to study their own inner direction before they take "ordering" from society. Her book, "Women in the 19th Century" is a landmark in American history.

sojourner.jpg
Fight for Women's Rights (5:22 mins.)
Sojourner writes her autobiography and gives anti-slavery speeches. She is an active proponent for women's rights. She argues for equal rights having never received preferential treatment in her life.

ecofeminism
Eco-Feminism (3:10 mins.)
Clip from: Shakti: The Power of Women. Dr. Vandana Shiva, activist and founder of Navdanya, observes the world from a non-violent standpoint where biodiversity and the defense of nature are paramount. Members of Navdanya make an effort to save trees from deforestation.
