Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center is a one-stop source for information on today's hottest social issues. Drawing on acclaimed series published by Greenhaven Press and other Gale imprints, OVRC features viewpoint articles, topic overviews, full-text magazine, academic journal, and newspaper articles, primary source documents, statistics, images and podcasts, and links to Websites.


Web sites

There are many good teen violence web sites on the internet. These web sites have been evaluated by library staff. Remember to always evaluate internet resources. To find out more about evaluating web sites, Cornell University has a very good guide.

Local Nonprofit Organizations

Roxbury Youthworks, Inc.* A community-based nonprofit organization that "combats the roots of juvenile delinquency in the inner city neighborhoods of Boston by providing innovative support services to court-involved and other youth up to 21 years of age." An exemplar contact for information about community involvement and activism, including information about events, programs, and social services for area youth and teens.

Teen Empowerment* A national nonprofit organization with two sites in Boston and Somerville, MA, with a mission to "empower youth and adults as agents of individual, institutional, and social change." Through youth organizer groups and events, "youth from rival neighborhoods are brought together to work towards common goals." A valuable resource for information about youth-to-youth programs that use dialogue as an alternative to violence.


National & Government Organizations

National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) A federally-funded reference and referral service offering justice and substance abuse information, including a searchable database containing articles, audiovisual material, publications, and reports about teen violence around the world. Also includes access to federal teen violence statistics and information from other federal agencies.

Youth Violence Prevention Center A federal resource "for communities working to prevent violence committed by and against young people." This site includes valuable resources for teen violence prevention efforts, including teen violence statistics, federal publications and reports, and news articles updated weekly.
